Yoga updates

Earlier this year, after a break of many decades,  I returned to Yoga. It was a bit of a bumpy start though and I almost didn't make it. However, after building up my core stability and upper body strength, I now feel that it's working for me.

Yoga is an ancient practice and has really  become popular in the  western world. It's great for mind/body health and can be practised at any age. There are many styles and I do Ashtanga, which is quite dynamic and I'm slightly surprised that I can manage it! A few months ago I discovered  laughter yoga - an interesting concept that I'm keen to know more about.

The practice  is a combination of laughter exercises with yogic breathing. Proponents claim that the practice increases the body's oxygen content whilst being playful. This  results in feeling more healthy, energised and alive. The outcome of this is that there are actual  changes to the physiology of the body so that one starts to feel happier. To find out more click here -  I've yet to find anywhere in the north east  that does it but if I do I'll give it a go and I'll be writing about my experience. So, watch this space.

If you live in the north east of England and want to either give yoga a try, or you are considering returning, there is an Ashtanga workshop on Sunday 1st December 1-3.30pm at Pinetree health and fitness, 201 Jesmond Road, NE2 1LA. The cost is £18 or £15 if pre-paid. The class is also open to non members of the club.
