Coconut as food and medicine

Revered in many parts of the world for it's exceptional healing properties, coconut is both an amazing food and medicine. High in dietary fibre and  rich in vitamins and minerals, coconut is part of the staple diet for about a third of the planet worldwide. It produces meat, juice/water, milk and oil.  In fact, the oil has been referred to as "the healthiest oil on earth". In addition coconut has been used in traditional medicine for many years to treat a variety of conditions.

Coconut is great for health. Amongst other  things coconut supplies the body with top quality saturated fat. However, unlike other saturated fats, coconut  is rich in medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs) and is, therefore, good for heart health. It also provides the body with  a good source of lasting energy and vitality. Coconut also stimulates metabolism and is, therefore, good for weight, thyroid and insulin level control. Coconut also has anti-oxidant,  anti-ageing, and anti-cancer benefits.

The health writer Leslie Kenton has recently written a great article about the health benefits of coconut oil.
The latest thinking is that in order to maintain optimum health  we need the right sort of fats in our diet. Coconut contains those sort of fats. Also, it's so versatile. You can eat it raw, drink the water and cook with it. There's a mass of scrumptious recipes out there using coconut. You can even use it as a base oil for massage.

Which ever way you choose to use it one thing for sure is that your body will love you for ever. So, start your love affair with coconut now and you'll never look back.
