Essential oil of the month - tea tree

Here in the UK we're rapidly moving into autumn. As the leaves start to fall so do the temperatures. In this time of transition our body needs protection. Autumn can be a time when many are susceptible to colds and viral illness. As ever, however, mother nature has our best intentions at heart and there are many botanical remedies out there that can support us as we move into the colder seasons. For me one particular remedy stands out above the rest - tea tree essential oil.

Tea tree is native to Australia and has been used for thousands of years by the aboriginal people. I was also interested to learn recently that it was used in the second world war to treat infections. Versatile and inexpensive it can be applied neat to cuts, cold sores and to fungal infections like warts or verrucas. It can also be blended with a base oil to create a  massage or bath  oil and combines well with other antiseptic oils such as eucalyptus, lemon and rosemary. If you have a cough or a cold a drop or two of the neat oil can also be used in a steam inhalation. So refreshing and uplifting.

Tea tree oil is sold over the counter at most high street chemists. However, if you prefer to look on line click here to browse my aromatherapy shop.
